Let Us Focus On The Right Things

Let us focus on the right things!

I recently went through a situation that caused me to stop and think about the little things in life that often go unnoticed. We can go through our day trying to get all the things accomplished on our ‘to do list’ without realizing time is tick - tick - ticking away. Before we know it, the day is gone, then the week, then the month, and we may soon start to think that the years are going by so quickly.

Time is a precious gift. The Bible tells us that time is like a vapor. (see James 4:14)

I believe the enemy loves to keep us busy with meaningless distractions. In Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, King Solomon explained time in this way:

       A Time for Everything

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

A time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.

I was listening to the song, ‘CORNERSTONE’ by Toby Mac. The lyrics to that song really made me think. The world is spinning around as we go through life. The seasons come and go. Here are some of the song lyrics:

But even in the shifting winds

You are who You've always been

You're the only rock that I could ever stand on

Through it all You remain

The sun goes up, the sun comes down

This old world keeps spinnin' 'round

I'm here travelin' down this long and winding road (this winding road)

Yeah, seasons come and seasons go

They take me high, then leave me low

But I'm still standing on the only rock I know

You're my cornerstone

Oh, oh, oh, no matter where I go, my cornerstone

Oh, oh, oh, no matter where I go, Mister Zach Williams

On Christ, the solid rock I'm standin'

All of the ground is sinking sand

On Christ, the solid rock I'm standin'

All of the ground is sinking sand

On Christ, the solid rock I'm standin', yes Lord

You're the only one that I will build my life on

Through it all You remain

What really matters in life? I'm coming to realize it's the little things! I'm becoming more and more thankful for all the things in life – big and small. God is helping me to see how precious life really is through all its many facets. We can all be thankful for beautiful sunsets, the hug from a small child, or even an amazing cup of coffee! I'm thankful for my family and the life God has given me. His Presence and the ability to overcome obstacles by His power, is truly a gift I am thankful to have in my life.

So let us not waste any more precious time being distracted by meaningless things. We all must make up our minds on what we will build our life on, and on what we will focus on. I made the decision that I was going to put my trust in Jesus. That means being thankful for the little things, and realizing that life is too short to worry or be focused on meaningless things! Will you join me in this decision?

Focusing on God and making Jesus Christ your Solid Rock will give you the ability to stand firm on His promises when troubles and harder situations come your way. Making Christ my firm foundation has helped me not only overcome obstacles, but it's helped me to persevere to keep moving forward. I know God is helping me grow into a more loving person – a person who is learning to be more patient and caring towards others, even when, in the natural, seems impossible!

Isaiah 33:6 says, “In that day he will be your sure foundation, providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the LORD will be your treasure.”

In Ephesians 2:20-22 we learn about the fact that there's only one Cornerstone and if you don't have that part of your life correct the whole rest of your foundation and your house is going to crumble, because a cornerstone is one of the most important things in building a solid foundation. If you choose to build your life on Christ, HE must be the Cornerstone! By doing so, you will enjoy all things that God has provided. The simple, little things in life start to become more meaningful and more enjoyable.

Matthew 7:24-27 talks about the fact that there are different people who build their house on different things. If we choose to build our house on the wrong, weaker things (in life), we will not be able to withstand the storms and trials that come our way.

When you go through life and not build your foundation on Christ, your heart will become hard. You build walls around it and it becomes hardened. You don't see things the way you should and you're actually just going through the motions of life and nothing seems to have any value or worth. As believers, we know life is worth living.

Take some time today to enjoy a walk with someone you love. Take some time today to read a book and enjoy the gentle breeze blowing. Take some time today to look at the world in a completely different way. Look at the world through the lens of Jesus Christ.

When you make the decision to do this you will look different, you will act different, you will speak differently, and things just won't affect you like they used to.

I think it's about time we focus on the right thing ~ JESUS
